During a press conference in the UK, President Trump shot down CNN’s Jim Acosta’s question for being fake news and called on Fox’s John Roberts instead. Roberts then asked his question. Many people (on CNN) were furious at Roberts for the way he handled the situation. According to them, Roberts should have stood up to Trump and told them that CNN isn’t fake news and to let them ask questions.
Later on Roberts did apologize for not doing more. “In today’s press conference, I paused while my colleague from CNN went back and forth with President Trump over a question. When it became clear that the president wasn’t going to entertain a question from him, I proceeded with my question, as did my fellow colleagues in the press corps,” said Roberts.
“I also used to work at CNN. There are some fine journalists who work there and risk their lives to report on stories around the world. To issue a blanket condemnation of the network as ‘fake news’ is also unfair,” said Roberts. However, according to CNN’s Brian Stelter this apology was too little too late.
However, there is one detail that CNN will not acknowledge. Fox News anchor Howard Kurtz revealed that Acosta was interrupting everyone when trying to ask his questions.
“What’s gotten missed in a lot of the controversy here is that he called on John Roberts. Jim Acosta was interrupting. He was trying to hijack the question, which he has done before with President Trump. This is not some scrum where they’re walking to the helicopters and everybody is shouting out,” explained Kurtz.
