Jeff Flake Wants To Stop Trump's Tariffs By Introducing New Bill

I have a lot of catching up to do.

Jeff Flake is planning to introduce a bill to counter the Trump tariffs on steel and aluminum:

“Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) said on Thursday that he will introduce legislation to nix President Trump’s tariffs on steel and aluminum imports just minutes after they were announced.

“I will immediately draft and introduce legislation to nullify these tariffs, and I urge my colleagues to pass it before this exercise in protectionism inflicts any more damage on the economy,” Flake said in a statement. …”

It’s not going to go anywhere.

It would require a two-thirds vote in Congress to overturn a Trump veto. Democrats aren’t going to support such a painful and divisive vote. It is more likely they would support Trump and use the issue to divide the GOP Congress from Trump in the Rust Belt. They’re the ones on the ballot.

Charles Koch has an article roaring about it in The Washington Post. Paul Ryan is roaring about it. The US Chamber of Commerce is roaring about it. Gary Cohn left the White House over it. It has probably been the best week of the Trump presidency. We haven’t had the chance to talk much about it though because I have been embroiled in these retarded optics debates.
