Former President Jimmy Carter Backs Trump On DACA

Former President Jimmy Carter

Jimmy Carter used a speech to college students in Georgia yesterday to tell people that Trump’s canceling DACA with a 6-month was a good move politically.

Carter said that the existence of DACA was really just a band-aid that Congress was using to address the issue of the illegal immigrants who were forced here by their parents and spent their lives in the US.

Adding, “As a matter of fact, to give Trump some due, he hasn’t ended DACA yet. What he said is he’s given the Congress six months to address the issue, which is long overdue.”

Carter went on to say that Trump has waffled on whether he’d actually move to deport so-called “dreamers” if Congress doesn’t act.

It was Thursday morning that Trump tweeted, “Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military? Really!”

Carter criticized ex-President Obama, saying that he failed to win passage for the Dream Act — named for the sometimes sympathetic stories of the young immigrants — even when Obama had Democratic majorities on Capitol Hill.
