President Trump shut down a reporter trying to score points with a cheap shot during an interview in Bedminster, New Jersey yesterday.
The reporter asked about the Russian government expelling 100’s of US embassy workers, to which Trump responded by saying he’s thankful to Putin for getting rid of them.
President Trump explained, “No. I want to thank him, because we’re trying to cut down on payroll. And as far as I’m concerned, I’m very thankful that he let go of a large number of people because now we have a smaller payroll.”
It was after the US imposed more sanctions on Russia last month that Putin ordered 755 embassy personnel out of Russia.
Trump added, “There’s no real reason for them to go back. So I greatly appreciate the fact that they have been able to cut our payroll for the United States. We’ll save a lot of money.”
