More scandals keep emerging from the former Obama administration as it has just been revealed that they spent$36 billion dollars in one year just to keep his own records secret!
And there is more, in 2015 and 2016 the Obama government set a record for the number of times federal employees said they couldn’t find a single page of files that were requested under the Freedom of Information Act.
And it gets worse, they also set records the outright denial of access to files, refusing to quickly consider requests described as especially newsworthy, and forcing people to pay for records.
The Committee to Protect Journalists delivered a scathing report in 2013 that attacked the Obama administration for failing in the president’s pledge to build a more open government.
The report said: ‘Journalists and transparency advocates say the White House curbs routine disclosure of information and deploys its own media to evade scrutiny by the press.’
‘Aggressive prosecution of leakers of classified information and broad electronic surveillance programs deter government sources from speaking to journalists.’
The Obama administration was also called out for its attempt to force New York Times reporter James Risen to reveal a confidential source.
It’s still unclear how President Donald Trump’s administration will perform under the Freedom of Information Act or other measures of government transparency.
