We all remember NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick after he showed some major disrespect for our national anthem on live TV when he refused to stand during his football games.
Calling America a ‘racist’ country, he said his not standing as a form of protest. Well his actions were not forgotten as he was fired today for that little stunt.
According to USA Today, Kaepernick was just fired by the San Francisco 49ers, and won’t be returning next season. His contract with the 49ers was due to 2020, but the team decided not to consider him for the roster because of all the drama he cause last year.
It seemed like Kaepernick had a promising career in football, but now it seems to have slipped through his fingers.
Kaepernick told NFL Media last summer, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
His protests did not seem to go over well with the rest of 49ers.
“The national anthem is and always will be a special part of the pre-game ceremony,” the team said in a statement. “It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect on the great liberties we are afforded as its citizens. In respecting such American principles as freedom of religion and freedom of expression, we recognize the right of an individual to choose and participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem.”
Are you glad that Kaepernick got fired? Do you support this?
