The Senate voted 56-43 in support of Rex Tillerson as the new Secretary of State and President Donald Trump seems to be very proud with his latest pick.
Even three Democrats voted for Tillerson. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Mark Warner of Virginia Angus King, an Independent from Maine who caucuses with the Democrats agreed that Tillerson is fit for this position.
Most Democrats weren’t happy with this pick, but the former Exxon Mobil CEO is voted to be the best option for this position.
Sen. Ben Cardin, the Foreign Relations Committee’s top Democrat, explained his reasons to vote “no.” Reasons? No, “concerns” fits better. According to Cardin, Tillerson is a “yes man” who won’t have the power to prevent President Trump fro pursuing misguided foreign policy which would lead America “on a march of folly.”
Republicans were more powerful, and they brought Rex Tillerson up here. It’s majority what counts, and this time they won. This voting was one of the most important after the elections. The President is slowly gathering his top people, and they’ll all work on improving the situation in our country. The Secretary of State bears an important role, and takes part in bringing decisions on important matters.
However, Tillerson’s friendship with the Russian President Vladimir Putin is what worries people the most. Even some of the Republicans are concerned over this question, especially Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. He wondered if Tillerson considers Putin a war criminal regarding the activities in Ukraine and Syria.
The Russian President gave Tillerson the Order of Friendship.
