We all know that Mexican president, Enrique Peña Nieto has refused to pay for the wall Trump will build between US and Mexico, and now a meeting has been canceled because of this.
Trump said it’s unnecessary to have a meeting with Nieto if he is unwilling to pay for the wall.
“The U.S. has a 60 billion dollar trade deficit with Mexico. It has been a one-sided deal from the beginning of NAFTA with massive numbers…of jobs and companies lost,” Trump said in a series of tweets.
“If Mexico is unwilling to pay for the badly needed wall, then it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting.”
On Wednesday, Trump signed the official order for the national agencies to start the wall building, something that is expected to stabilize America immensely.
For this reason, Nieto is now reconsidering meeting with Donald Trump on Jan. 31, as scheduled previously.
Donald Trump has met Nieto once during the campaign and clearly stated his intentions for the wall, but now Nieto is second-guessing this decision.
On Wednesday again, ABC News had an interview with Trump, who said that the money coming from Mexico to build the wall are key to the entire vision.
“I’m just telling you there will be a payment,” he said. “As soon as we can. As soon as we can physically do it.”
“I would say in months,” Trump added when pressed on a timeline for building the barrier. “Certainly planning is starting immediately.”
The very same day, Peña Nieto responded to these announcements from Donald Trump:
“Far from uniting us, it divides us,” Peña Nieto said in a recorded video message. “Mexico does not believe in walls.”
Additionally, Peña Nieto claimed that all Mexican consulates in the United States would “become authentic defenders of the rights of migrants,” and that Mexico as a country “offers, and demands, respect.”
