Obama seems determined to make President Trump’s job as hard as possible, as he now wants to FREE MORE Guantanamo Bay prisoners!
According to the NY Times he intends to free and transfer 17 or 18 of the remaining 59 convicts at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba before he leaves office. Released them in Italy, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
The Pentagon must tell Congress 30 days in advance of any prisoner transfer, so that means the deadline for the transfer of the inmates under Obama’s watch is due on Monday.
Here’s what the Times said:
The Bush administration brought about 780 men to Guantánamo after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, saying that it could hold Qaeda suspects there in indefinite wartime detention without trial — a move that the Supreme Court eventually approved — and that it could disregard the Geneva Conventions in how it treated them, which the court rejected.
President George W. Bush started trying to close the prison in his second term and bequeathed 242 detainees to Mr. Obama.
Should Obama’s demand to free and deport the inmates be approved, Trump will be left with 41 or 42 inmates, 10 of which were convicted in military commissions and at least 27 more are labeled as too “dangerous” to be set free.
According to the NY Time, the last four or five men come from three from nations with strong connections to radical Islam and another “whom no country offered a home.”
Now Trump said during his campaign that he will keep Guantanamo Bay open under his watchful eye, and keep filling it with “some bad dudes.”
