Donald Trump’s not wasting time as he took on Lockheed Martin today, over the inflated F-35 costs.
This is the second airplane manufacturer he’s taken on after he went after Boeing over Air Force One.
As reported by Fox News:
Trump shared his opinion on Twitter and spoke about it previously in a Fox News interview.
“The F-35 program and cost is out of control,” Trump tweeted. “Billions of dollars can and will be saved on military (and other) purchases after January 20th.”
“If you look at the F-35 program with the money, the hundreds of billions of dollars, and it’s out of control,” Trump said. “And the people that are making these deals for the government, they should never be allowed to go to work for these companies.”
“We look forward to working with the president-elect and his administration to further build on the F-35 program’s record of demonstrated performance and affordability,” a Lockheed Martin spokesman told The Wall Street Journal after Trump’s Sunday remarks.
It is obvious that this was falling apart From The Week:
The plane in question is called F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and it was expected that it would be the most exquisite plane of all. The United States’ stealthy F-22 was already considered the best plane so far, yet the F-35 was predestined to do everything, and even become the lead fighter-bomber of the U.S. It was planned to be stealthy, to take off and land vertically, and to have excellent knowledge of its surroundings. Right now it can do all those things.
This whole thing cost $1.3 trillion and counting. Unlike the Apollo Program, which cost about $170 billion in 2005 dollars.
The F-35 was intended to do everything that the other planes couldn’t. It was supposed to serve the Navy as a carrier-borne plane and the Air Force as a shooting plane.
However, the process has been quite delayed. The newest problem is the plane’s software — and it is not functional. Former RAND author John Stillion stated that the F-35 “can’t turn, can’t climb, can’t run.”
Now, Donald Trump is uncertain of the plane after gathering all information.
Trump promised that he would put an end to such illogical decisions, and Trump has kept that promise.
